2020 was a rough year for the Tiki Bar industry, but already some exciting new cocktail bars are being announced, including The Sorrow Drowner! The Sorrow Drowner is an all-new bar and dining experience coming to Wilmington, North Carolina. Mike Schwalm Creative and Trader Brandon have both been hired to help create the new environment.
Concept art for the bar by Mike Schwalm Creative was recently released. The artwork shows the restaurant’s Grand Marae, the largest room within the Sorrow Drowner. In the piece a performer appears in spotlight flanked by enormous Tikis. An excited crowd gathers at tables in front of the stage amongst artifacts such as sharks, fish floats, paintings, and books.
Trader Brandon was hired to assist in the development for The Sorrow Drowner. He was Set Decorator and Writer for both Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto. He is also the author of The Field Guide to Tiki Decorating and the comic book series The Untold Adventures of Trader Brandon. In addition to designing Tiki bars and writing Tiki books, Trader Brandon also creates his own Tiki mugs, pins, and glassware.
More details regarding the new bar, including its back story, is available on The Sorrow Drowner’s official website. An opening date has not yet been announced, but we think it’s never too early to start planning a road trip. Are you excited for this new cocktail bar?
