A classic little mug inspired by the statue of Maui in the center of the Polynesian Hotel. The sculpting, while subtle, is really well done on this guy. The glazing I’ve seen can be a little hit or miss – I picked up two mugs, one for me and one for a friend, and one of them was a little less filled-in than the other when it came to the glaze around the eyes and logo. Nothing too noticeable, and adds to the charm a bit, but something to consider. My one gripe with this, and with some of the other Trader Sam’s mugs, is that it has a soft grit texture, almost like an extremely fine-grade sandpaper or a matte finish, that I personally find uncomfortable at first. It definitely goes away as the mug gets cold, though. Overall a really good mug that doesn’t immediately scream “Disney Property!” to the uninformed.
