The Donn of Tiki seeks to tell the intriguing story of Donn Beach, a man widely considered to be one of the founding fathers of Americanized Tiki culture. The film’s recently announced Kickstarter campaign offers incentives, such as a SHAG mug, to contribute.
Pledge levels start at $10 and max out at $5000 or more. For $250, patrons will receive a special gold or Beaumont Blue glaze cocktail mug designed by artist SHAG and produced by Tiki Farm. An even more limited glaze of the mug (LE 100) is available for $350. At the time of this writing, the project has successfully raised $23,000 of its $50,000 goal, with 29 days to go.
Funding raised through Kickstarter will go toward equipment rental and purchases, archival footage and image fees, production insurance, legal counsel, and more. The Donn of Tiki is a fiscally sponsored project of the International Documentary Association (IDA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Contributions are payable to the IDA and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
The estimated timeline for the project has the movie wrapping production toward the end of 2022.

Tha’s a really fine-looking Shag tiki for what might turn out to be an excellent film on Donn Beach. An ovredue film, too.
