Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto Releases New Citrus Surfer Tiki Mug Despite Being Closed Due To COVID-19

Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto has been closed for most of 2020 as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and it seems they have decided to do some housekeeping while shuttered. Their newest mug, the Citrus Surfer, was just released, but not at Trader Sam’s. Instead the mug can be found at the upstairs bar of Disney’s Polynesian Resort known as Tambu Lounge.

The new Citrus Surfer mug may look familiar to Trader Sam’s completionists. The design is nearly identical to the Tangaroa Surfboard mug released at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar in 2019. However unlike the Tangaraoa Surfboard mug, the Citrus Surfer mug features a dark blue glaze.

The exact edition size for this mug is unknown, but it is presumed to be around 2000, which means this mug will likely be in stock at the Tambu Lounge for at least a while. The mug retails for $32.00, which does not include sales tax or tip. It comes with a fruity cocktail of the same name, which is a mix of Pyrat XO Reserve Rum, Appleton Estate Reserve Rum, Orgeat (almond), and Falernum, with a blend of lime, lemon, orange, and grapefruit juices.

Those looking to secure the newest Trader Sam’s mug for their collection may need to make special arrangements to get there. Disney’s Polynesian resort is currently under renovation and the monorail station is closed as a result. At the time of this writing, security is allowing people to park at the resort for “merchandise pick-up.”

For those unable to travel to Orlando, Florida to pick up a Citrus Surfer, we recommend checking out the Trader Sam’s Mug Trading group on Facebook. Members of the group will often do pick-ups for people at cost (as required by the groups rules).

You can now add Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto’s newest mug, the Citrus Surfer, to your collection or wishlist on The Search for Tiki.

  1. You mention difficulty getting to the Polynesian. You can actually park in the parking for Magic Kingdom (aka the TTC) and walk to the resort. I did this last week without a problem! Went and picked up some merch from the boutiki.
