The secret project has finally been announced! We’ve been unsuccessfully trying to spot the Rum Tub tiki mug in VanTiki’s Tiki Technical Tuesday videos for months.

The new mug depicts the rum tub of a navy ship, which historically was used to hand out rations of rum to sailors. The rum ration tradition ended on July 31st, 1970, but this mug will allow the legend to carry on! The Rum Tub has been revealed in three different glazes with one glaze being sold for False Idol, one for Smuggler’s Cove, and another for Hale Pele.

“Black Tot Day 50th Anniversary 1970-2020 VanTiki” is written on the bottom of each mug, along with an edition number and bar logo. Each mug will come with four historic image postcards commemorating Black Tot Day and a custom “bill of lading” decal.

The False Idol Rum Tub features a San Diego Seaspray glaze and will go on sale first on June 30th at 10:00AM PDT.

The Smuggler’s Cove Rum Tub features a Bayside Brass glaze and will go on sale second on July 7th at 10:00AM PDT.

Last but not least, The Hale Pele Rum Tub featuring a Northwest Moss glaze will go on sale July 14th at 10:00AM PDT.

We are thankful the releases have been spread out to give more people a chance of obtaining one. All three mugs will be sold online only and will retail for $225. They are limited to editions of 125 mugs each. You will be able to purchase all three of them on the Smuggler’s Cove website found here. Please note the False Idol and Hale Pele versions will be sold through the Smuggler’s Cove website as well. There is a limit of one mug per glaze per customer.
